Developing local culture-based EFL reading materials for the 21st-century learning

The material specification is one aspect of teaching English at a vocational high school. Materials should be well-prepared to facilitate and promote students’ comprehension concepts. This study aimed develop instructional reading materials for Palembang – Tourism-Destination that are valid, practical, potentially effective students enrolled in Travel Agent Study Program school Palembang, South Sumatera Province, Indonesia. product was developed meet the needs. research developmental study, with phases including design, evaluation, revision phases. Questionnaires, interviews, tests were used collect data. data analyzed quantitatively qualitatively. A formative evaluation conducted determine product’s validity, practicality, potential impact. Experts evaluated content, media, design validity. results indicated established extremely scored an average 3.65 all elements. Practicality rated highly one-to-one small-group evaluations, scores 3.55 3.35. field test showed texts had impact, as 79.16 percent earned required passing grade. As result, it reasonable assume can classroom reading.
